Another possibility will be to create an installation listener, where the variable can be changed programmatically.

This would probably work, but it would require changing the installation
procedure, which currently does not use a user input panel.
Even though I found no other solution for my initial problem I have
re-packaged my files now, so that there is no need anymore for changing the
installation path.
