Hi all,
I am also one who do not like flags and country dependant 
language selection. But this exist long time in IzPack, therefore
I will not break backward compatibility.
Btw. it is possible to change to non-flag and localized written
language (see docu Advanced Features->Modifying the GUI).
To create "flags" with a code for the language is a good idea.

During this thread I have just remembered me, that
changing to ISO 639-1 (2 letter language code) or
ISO 639-2 (3 letter) will not fix all problems.

In the past we have had one (or more?) problems with "dialects",
e.g. Portuguese for Brasil and for Portugal. And what about 
Deutsch and Switzerdütsch?
What I see is, that it cannot be solved with 2 or 3 letter language code.
Jave uses in ResourceBundles a combination of ISO 3166 an ISO 639-1. 
What about to change locale handling to this, but holding backward
compatibility? As example
both files
deu.xml
de_CH.xml
will be accept as standard language files for IzPack. 
Additional the other localized files marked with an infix or postfix
have to use also both notations like

CustomActionsLang.xml_deu
CustomActionsLang.xml_de_DE
CustomActionsLang.xml_de_CH

But how to handle selection in the language selection box?
If I see it right, class Locale supports this often. For "pt", "BR" I got
"português" "Brasil"
For "fa" "IR" it is "Persisch" "Iran" 
(localisation works not for every language on every box).
Should be possible to implement it.
But what about the languages which are only exist in the
3 letter version?? Someone cannot have all...
